Rumor: Switch Successor Might Be Revealed This Week

Mark your calendars for either Thursday or Friday, folks.

Fans have been waiting a long time for Nintendo to finally unveil the details about the successor console to Switch, and it seems they might be getting what they want later this week. A leak has revealed that Nintendo Switch 2, or whatever the new console ends up getting called, is going to be shown off this week on Friday, January 17. The leak comes from Average Lucia Fanatic on X, who has been known in the past to accurately spill information in advance, including word on the release dates for PlayStation 5 Pro and Nintendo's Alarmo.

But wait, there's more. Another leak from Nate the Hate over on YouTube alleges the reveal will come on Thursday, January 16, and that there won't be any gameplay shown off. You can take a look for yourself:

The timing would certainly line up for Nintendo to make this announcement now, as the company has already stated that it intends to announce the Switch successor console before the end of its fiscal year in March of 2025. What's more, pundits online are convinced that Switch 2 will likely be aiming to launch in spring of this year, so getting the word out now would be paramount. As far as games go, the rumor mill is convinced that a Switch 2 announcement will also include a glimpse at Mario Kart 9 and a new, 3D Mario game.

Exciting stuff... if it turns out to be true.
