The actor will be 87 by the time the show wraps production.

Warner Bros. is prepping its upcoming Harry Potter series for HBO and its Max streaming service, which means casting rumors have been plentiful. One such rumor has been that actor John Lithgow is being tapped for the role of Professor Albus Dumbledore, Hogwarts' beloved headmaster. While Warner Bros. hasn't officially made the announcement, Lithgow himself, at least, seems to believe that he's landed the part:

Well, it came as a total surprise to me. I just got the phone call up at the Sundance Film Festival for yet another film, and it was not an easy decision because it's going to define me for the last chapter of my life, I'm afraid. But I'm very excited. Some wonderful people are turning their attention back to Harry Potter. That's why it's been such a hard decision. I'll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I've said yes.

Lithgow spilled the beans speaking with ScreenRant about his new film, The Rule of Jenny Penn. As the actor points out himself, if the series does indeed cover the seven books in the series, ti will likely take Lithgow to the end of his life, or at least the end of his career. Once official Harry Potter casting announcements are made we'll let you all know, but if this is indeed just scuttlebutt, it's coming from quite a reliable source.
